Anthony DeFilippis, President & Founder

Tony is the founder and chief foodie at Pranzo Tours. He grew up eating his mother’s wonderful southern Italian cooking served in the traditions of food and family that define Italian culture. He thought he knew Italian food until he traveled to Italy fifteen years ago. He hasn’t stopped exploring since.

Tony has spent the last eight years discovering the nooks and crannies of his favorite Italian locations from carefully kept artisanal traditions in the basements of family farmhouses to the large warehouses of prosciutto and cheeses. No matter where he travels, Tony finds people who want to share their passions with you.

  • Best way to start the day: At a small neighborhood café with a sfogliatella pastry and watching the locals.

  • Favorite aperitif: Negroni Sbagliato.

  • Most unexpected find: Giant fried sage leaves.

  • Friendliest place: At a dinner table with locals, anywhere in Italy.

  • Top travel tip: Don’t compare Italy to the US, or anywhere else you have visited. Embrace the uniqueness of each region.

Tony planned out a well organized itinerary for four of us that included a truffle hunt, cooking classes, a bicycle adventure, wine tastings and vineyard tours, and wonderful restaurants.
